Spend an afternoon, a week ago, shooting a small construction-theme. Made some blueprints, got some simple items and a small house from my dads modeltrain. I wanted to create some backgrounds and some really iconic images.

I created these images using only natural light. Behind the subjects is a large window. In front my California Sunbounce, which by the way, is a kickass reflector. If you don’t have one, you should consider one. Fast assembly, lightweight and the fabric is durable. The best part, however, is the amount of light it reflects. Good good quality light. Mine is silver/white.

Used the D700 with both 85mm f/1.4 and also my 105mm f/2.8 VR macro (Amazing lens by the way). Iso 200 and lowest possible aperture, to get really low DOF.

Friday I did a small brunch theme, and here’s a few shots from it. Tried to keep is simple. Here’s a diagram over the setup:

And here’s a few images. Everything is natural daylight. The black table is only wooden board, I placed on the table. No reflection used on that shot, and the window to the right. Please keep in mind these aren’t final edits. Only a blunt rough version.

At moment I’m retouching more images for my iStock portfolio. I’m close to 1000 files in there. Here’s a before/after my retouch. I cleaned up the skin, without changing her face proportions, gave her a nice warm golden tanned tone. Added a bit of contrast, a bit high pass sharpening and for now it’s waiting in the pending queue. The model is Natasha, a sweet hardworking Aarhus-girl, that I definitely will be shooting again soon.

Here’s some of my own favourite images from 2011. Not because they are flawless or perfect, but simple because I enjoyed shooting them, creating them or they meant some sort of a turning point. For some of them I can’t even explain why I like them. I just do. Anyway – Click through my gallery of my own creations from 2011.
It was a year that took me around Denmark. To Hornborga, Sweden. To loyal customers. To new customers, and even some I can’t show. Gave me hours in studios. I spent hours planning shoots. I spent late hours in nights editing for deadlines. 2011 was a cool year, when I think back. I hope 2012 brings the same. Also to you, who keep coming back here, supporting and reading my words. Recently I shot images for a danish handyman from Sønderborg. He’s build quite a company in just a few years, helping people and company’s with all the stuff, they don’t have time to do, or don’t want to do themselves. It’s tasks like painting, gardening, demolishing, removing snow, bricklaying, restoring building and I could go on. His company’s is called Trivsels Assistenten, and you can see the danish page HERE. I’ve been practicing my skills in photographing foods. It’s actually not difficult, but there’s some thoughts, that have to be made, before pressing the trigger. Like what depth of field would you like? Where would you like the direction of the light and what kind of light? You have to think about the white balance aswell. You don’t want the food with strange colorcast. It has to look delicirous and ready to eat. I got a lot of great information and tips from this book by Nicole S. Young: Food Photography: From Snapshots to Great Shots. It’s well written and well illustrated, and also includes lots of inspiring images.

Here’s a couple of images I shot, using nothing but natural light. My main light, the window light, is actually just a large window. This day we had an overcast softening the sun, as if it was a gigantic softbox. The soft light surrounded the food nicely. To avoid the dark shady areas, I used an reflector to bounce the light back in. I shot with my Nikon 85mm f/1.4 (On sale at Amazon atm.: Nikon 85mm f/1.4G) at f/2. Iso 200.

Keep in mind this is babysteps, and I still have lots of room to improve. I hope you got something from this anyway. My approach to this, will be the same for a while. Thanks for reading!

Here’s a gallery from my latest case from Bolius. I took a lot of energy getting these images captured. It was an early very foggy saturday morning and I had almost no natural light to work with. These are almost all shot at iso800 with my 24-70mm f/2.8. I was using apertures from f/4 to f/8 as I really need the DOF to show the scene. Sometimes I’d really like a wider lens like a 14-24, but at the same time, I do think they make the room seem bigger than it really is. And I always return to the 24-70 anyway. Is just never lets me down. The portraits are with the 85mm f/1.4. I had my back to the window, giving me nice soft light on the young architect who won 30.000Dkr! It took me an hour and I was out of the door. It was all I had. It was like this: “Think – Compose – Click. Think – Compose – Click. Think – Compose – Click. See ya’!”

Here’s a few images from the last wedding. A very patient and sweet couple. They are shot at a local old manor, that today serves as a ridingcenter/school. Both for amateurs and professionals. I can only recommend it as a location, because its a big area, and there are so many cool and interesting places to get the best out of your customers. They do deserve the best, don’t they? ;) This is, besides -004, all natural light. The sun was shining from a clear blue october sky. We were lucky indeed.

Heres a few shots from my last assignment for the magazine, Bedre Hjem. The owners here won a prize for the usage and design of this cottage. Heres another slideshow I gave a recently wed couple as a gift, after I shot their wedding. We had a great day, and I was with them throughout the day and came home with over 800 NEF’s to edit. This week I delievered their photos and they were happy. The husbond works with optimizing business and processes and told me he wouldnt change a thing. I was thrilled. :) Congratulations again to Tine and Thomas. May all your days be happy.

The song used is Maria Montell’s version of the old Charlie Chaplin classic ‘Smile’. I took the tempo out of the image flow a lot since the previous slideshows. Hope you enjoy it.
